　　Kuwait has signed an agreement to purchase artillery from China.

　　The deal signed over the weekend calls for Kuwait to purchase China‘s 155 mm artillery. The amount of the contract was not announced.

　　Officials said that the number of artillery systems would suffice for a Kuwaiti battalion. The contract also includes accessories for the artillery.

　　China and Kuwait have improved relations in a range of areas, including defense. Beijing has offered a range of defensive systems and weapons to the sheikdom.

　　Kuwaiti Defense Minister Jabber Mubarak Al Sabah said his country‘s defense ties with China are increasing. Mubarak signed the accord for the sheikdom.

　　Most of Kuwait‘s artillery systems were destroyed during the Iraqi invasion and occupation of the sheikdom in 1990 and the subsequent U.S.-led liberation the following year. Kuwait has a range of U.S. and French 155 mm artillery systems.
